ABOUT US

Income, transportation, and (more-affordable) shopping resources are fewer in our rural areas.  Our supplemental food boxes bring in items packed with nutritional value, help fill cupboards, and help households to spend what money they have on other food items we can't get, such as fresh meat.

New for us is we are now a partner organization with the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way!  This means we have opportunities to share what we do, to participate in the annual Community Resource Fair, and more!

Staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers, who were/are recipients, we realized we wanted something different.  People came in depressed about their situation, and their need of programs like ours.  We wanted to let them know we cared, that they were our neighbors, and we are  a community.  We know their names now, and they know ours.  Many have become friends as they waited in line.

This may not seem like much to some.  But, when you need to know someone cares, that there are those who know your name, and want to help, it does make a big difference at a time when it can be most needed.

The pantry had been in operation for many, many years before becoming Foothill Food Pantry.  Originally, the program was overseen by a man who unexpectedly passed away in 2014.  It was realized we need to build longevity and security into the pantry, if it was to succeed.

To that end, a board was formed by some of the volunteers, the pantry was named and incorporated, and entered into its nonprofit status in October 2015.

The pantry food is primarily attained through a salvage process.  Our main donor receives, and passes to us, mostly organic/non-GMO items, which many of our recipients can't afford, but very much appreciate.  This makes us unique, in that aspect.
